One of our more popular recurring events, the local lunch outing, is a back – with a new twist.
Our “Local Lunch” event is just what it sounds like. Head to a local (downtown) restaurant and share a meal with Coworkers. No agenda – just people gathering to eat some great food and get to know each other a little better each time.
A concern expressed in past years was that, because the outing was scheduled the same day every week, some people weren’t able to participate because their work schedule never had them available that day. We also spent way too much time and effort deciding (as a group on Slack) where to go the day of the lunch outing and a few times people went to the wrong place.
Learning from that experience, we made two changes. First, we’ll choose the restaurant up front and post it ahead of time. Check the Home page of the Member Dashboard, Slack, and member emails for updates on Local Lunch and other events. To keep us out of a rut, we’ll still use the Slack bot to suggest locations (you can use it too if you want a lunch location tip – just type “lunch?” in Slack and the bot will suggest a downtown restaurant). Second, we adopted a new schedule that varies the day of the week as follows:
- 1st week of the month = Monday (1st day of the week)
- 2nd week of the month = Tuesday (2nd day of the week)
- 3rd week of the month = Wednesday (3rd day of the week)
- 4th week of the month = Thursday (4th day of the week)
