Composting, Recycling & Trash

Sustainability is one of our core values, so we’re always looking for ways to reduce the negative impact we have on the earth. Here’s how that works when it comes to tossing things “out” (there isn’t really an “out” it all has to go somewhere).

Compost (from the earth back to the earth) #

Look for compost buckets under the break room sink and by the break room trash can. Key City Compost picks them up and gives us new ones every Tuesday.

  • – All food (including meat, dairy, eggs)
  • – Coffee grounds (including the filter)
  • – Tea leaves / bags
  • – Paper towels
  • – Tissues
  • – Paper wrapper from the toilet paper
  • – Toilet paper rolls
  • – Pizza boxes (flatten and put next to the bucket)

TIP: Instead of rinsing your plate in the sink, grab a paper towel and wipe the food from the plate into the compost bucket, then toss the paper towel in too.

Recycle (transformed to find new use) #

There’s a recycle bin in the first floor hallway by the stairs. There are also small blue recycle bins upstairs (that get emptied into the larger bin). Recycling is picked up in the wee hours of the morning Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Here’s what Frederick will recycle.

  • – Aluminum other metal cans
  • – Glass bottles and jars
  • – Clean cardboard (pizza boxes should be composted)
  • – Clean paper (including newspapers, magazines & junk mail)
  • – Plastic and glass drink bottles
  • – Plastic yogurt containers
  • – Other plastic containers that are not thin and brittle
  • – Glass bottles and jars

NOT: plastic bags (clean bags can go in the break room for reuse), plastic drink cups (trash), napkins (compost), paper plates (trash), Styrofoam (trash), or bubble wrap (see below). Consider limiting your use of things that can’t be composted or recycled.

Pop Shop Packing Material Collection #

Bubble wrap and packing “peanuts” can’t be recycled, but they can be reused and a fellow downtown business will reuse them. We collect packing materials for the North Market Pop Shop in a box in the first floor hallway.

  • – Bubble wrap
  • – Padded envelopes
  • – Packing peanuts (please put in a bag)

TIP: Plastic bags are in the break room. It’s A-OK to bring these things in from home to contribute.

Trash #

Everything else goes in a trash can. Good news is if we do the other stuff (above) well, not much will leave this building destined for the landfill.
