What He Does
Sean Foley knows that running your own business is not for the faint of heart. As an attorney he specializes in providing legal and business advice to small- and medium-sized companies as well as helping healthcare organizations comply with contractual, state, and federal regulations. In a world of confusing legal terminology Sean is passionate about cutting through the legalese and writing contracts in plain English so that small business owners can operate with confidence.
Understanding Healthcare Compliance Firsthand
Sean’s eyes were opened to the logistical and legal challenges business owners face when he and his wife purchased ComFortCare Home Care, a home health agency located in York, PA, in 2013. Under their leadership the small business grew from 20 employees serving 25 clients to a medium-sized business with 140 employees serving for over 200 patients.
Taking a struggling business and growing it to seven times its size doesn’t happen by chance, however you might be surprised to learn that Sean purchased business focused on healthcare without a background in medicine. What he did possess was a willingness to learn and the belief that if he understood ComFortCare Home Care from A to Z there was no problem he couldn’t solve. Sean immersed himself in every aspect of his business, right down to being a caregiver himself, so that he would know firsthand the challenges his employees faced. From this he was able to better understand how to build for growth, when to hire new staff, and what patients really needed.
Diving Deeper into Healthcare Compliance
When Sean and his wife sold ComFortCare Home Care in March 2018 Sean returned to practicing law with a deeper understanding of what business owners need from an attorney. Owning and growing his ComFortCare Home Care made Sean keenly aware of the substantial burden placed on business owners to navigate healthcare compliance. With state and federal regulations, conditions from Medicare, and constantly changing payment models to adhere to, it is no surprise that many healthcare business owners become confused or struggle to maintain compliance. Sean says, “Most people get into the medical field because they want to help people, not get bogged down in compliance regulations.” Sean recently completed a Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) to help healthcare organizations make their business as ethical and compliant as possible. With an expert in their corner these businesses can provide the best care to their patients while avoiding costly fines and penalties from government regulators.
